Portion Control – Just like everything in life, too much of anything is a bad thing. This is why it is essential to allow yourself a little room to include some of your favorite foods. Cutting out all of your favorite foods will not only decrease your chances of staying on a diet, but it also increases your chances of binging. It is beneficial for you to eat foods you love and still lose weight. You can have a little treat here and there, but learn to eat a lower fat version of it. For instance, if you love cheese, buy a lower 2% fat cheese spread, as opposed to the higher fat version.
Take Notes – Watching what you eat is important, but writing it down is equally important. This is because even though you may keep an eye on what you eat, there is still a tendency that you may not keep an accurate count of fat grams or calories. When you write it down it puts your diet in perspective and allows you calculate your calories and fat a lot more consistently.
Stick a Wedding Invitation or Favorite Place to Visit on the Fridge – This is the same concept as having a not so favorable picture of yourself on the refrigerator. You know the one that shows your bad side. This is a reminder to keep yourself motivated whenever you feel like making a mad dash for the fridge.
Make Use of Food Scales - It’s easy to deceive yourself, when you are not quite sure how much 4 oz. of chicken or beef is. When you have a food scale, it eliminates this misconception.
Buy New Clothes - One way to celebrate your weight loss achievement is to buy smaller sized clothes when you lose weight. This will motivate you to continue losing weight. Also, be sure to throw out all your clothes that are bigger sizes. This will be an incentive to stay on track.
Treat Yourself - Part of the whole weight loss challenge is to allow yourself a little breathing room. It’s all right to allow yourself a special treat, like a piece of chocolate. The main concept behind this is self-control. Cut down the portions and you can still have the occasional treat.
Exercise is Essential - Even if your goal is to lose 10 lbs; exercise is the key to weight loss. Not only does it increase your chances of losing weight, but it also increases your chances of keeping it off long-term.
Don’t Give Up - Even if you have a bad day and you find yourself inhaling that Big Mac, relax; you still have one full day before it counts against you. Remember it’s not the end of the world. Regroup yourself and start fresh the next day.
Keep an Eye on Alcohol Consumption - Everyone wants to let lose once in a while, but making sure to take note of alcohol consumption is key because too much can hinder your ability to lose weight.
Honesty is the Best Policy - Make sure to always be frank with yourself. After all, the only person you would be fooling is yourself. When you are honest with yourself, you allow yourself to be honest with the expectations you have towards your weight loss goals.
