History Of Chemexfoliation Aka Chemical Peel

Chemical PeelSince ancient times people have been trying to improve and rejuvenate the skin.  It has been recorded in ancient Egypt that chemexfoliation also known as chemical peel, were used.  Lactic Acid, which is an active ingredient of milk that has gone sour was used by noble people as a skin rejuvenation therapy.  Later in the middle ages old wine with the active ingredient tartaric acid was used.

Today’s chemical peel treatment contains alpha hydroxy acids; these active ingredients are used for skin exfoliation.

Basically chemical peel is accelerated exfoliation, or in other terms skin damage which is induced by caustic agents causing controlled damage to the skin. This results in release of inflammatory mediators and cytokines. The epidermis is thickened as a result, and it reorganizes structural elements, disposition of collagen, and an increase in the dermal volume. The new dermal connective tissue is reoriented.
