How Do You Get Rid of Acne Scars II.

no acne coupleThe most permanent remedy for sunken scars is surgery. It is done at the doctor’s clinic and local anesthetics are used. The surgeon will remove the scar fill the area below it with skin and place the scar back on top leveling the surface. The doctor cannot physically remove the scar completely; he will make it smaller and will make it rise to the level of the surrounding skin. With time it will fade away or become unnoticeable.

In the case of raised scars the first treatment undertaken is direct injections of corticosteroids directly into the raised scar. This will soften and flatten the scar. It will allow raised scars to feel smoother and less noticeable. Injections are given with certain regularity and this depends on the type and size of the scar. If response to the corticosteroids is good and the scar changes noticeably treatment will continue. If after three or four weeks of treatment the scar seizes to respond then surgery will probably be necessary.

Several types of surgery are also available and they depend on the type and size of the raised scar. Many of these will return time after the surgery so some kind of treatment must be continued even after the surgery. In the same manner as the sunken scars, the raised scars will not go away completely, they will be reduced and leveled but they will leave a mark behind.

The spot lesions are better left alone, they will vanish with time. Attempting to remove them ahead of time may cause a permanent spot to form.

Acne-ScarsAcne is a disease that affects mainly the face, neck, shoulders, back and chest. It is caused by bacteria and also an overflow of hormones, androgens to be exact. They cause oil glands in the hair roots to secrete excessive amounts of oil which combined with dirt and dead skin cells clog the pores creating an infection where the bacteria thrives. Moderate to severe cases may cause scaring on the area where the affection took place. Usually mild cases will not leave scars unless the patient has touched them or squeezed the pimples and increased the infection.

There are three types of scars caused by acne. The first is a sunken disk-like hole in the area where a pimple used to be. This is caused by the loss of the supportive tissue under the pimple. The second one is a raise lesion; they will sometimes itch and hurt. Also they may remain tender for a long time after the acne has gone away. The third type of scaring resulting from acne is a spot, these can be different colors and sizes and they appear after the acne is gone and will remain for some time. Usually they will disappear alone after a while. It is very important for you to apply sunscreen when you go out. These spots will change color noticeably when exposed to the sun.

Modern technology has different ways of treating each of these scars. The depressed sunken scars may be treated will fillers or abrasive peelings. The peelings will renew the skin and the smallest holes will disappear with the old skin. Fillers like collagen and Botox can be used for larger depressions but these will wear out and have to be redone five or six months later. Chemical peelings are also an option and have the same principal as the abrasive peelings only they reach deeper into the skin layers and remove more damage than the abrasive peeling.

Herbs as Natural Remedies

Herbal teasBest way to have fresh herbs continually at hand to work their magic in your cooking is to grow your own–year round. Many herbs thrive about as well indoors in pots as outdoors in your garden. All they really need is adequate light, a warm but not too hot atmosphere, proper soil, sufficient moisture and humidity, and an occasional application of plant food.

Herbs are believed to work on food as well as on the body. Following are three great uses:

VINEGAR FRESHENER

Steep 1 ounce of dried rosemary, sage or mint — or a combination of these herbs — in 4 ounces of white vinegar for 2 weeks in the refrigerator strain and use the herbal vinegar as a facial wash, skin refresher or hair rinse. The herbs are mildly astringent and the vinegar helps restore the natural skin acidity.

HERBAL TEA

Herbal teas were long used as calmatives, stimulants and as digestive acids. Brew like ordinary tea from the dried herb per cup and an extra for the pot. Pour on boiling water and let steep for 3 minutes. Do not leave standing. Basil tea is said to give alertness: sage and marjoram teas are calmatives; savory tea aids digestion. Mint tea is said to arouse passions. (more…)

How to Tell if You Have Misaligned Jaw

Wednesday, December 23rd, 2009

Tinnitus3Dentists are successfully treating a number of common body ailments with the use of a simple, non-surgical technique of realigning the patient’s jaw. The method is being used to relieve headaches, backaches and stomach upsets, and to solve speech and hearing problems. It can also be used to re-adjust a person’s face to improve its appearance.

The technique involves correcting, the balance of the temporomandibular joint—TMJ for short—which is located just in front of each ear, where the lower jaw is hinged to the skull.

Dentists believe that a misaligned TMJ joint may be the source of many everyday aches and pains. They can detect if the joint is in balance by studying the patient’s mouth, and his face in general, and pressing on his neck and shoulders. An imbalance can then be corrected and a normal bite restored by inserting a small plastic appliance into the back of the mouth. “The principle behind this treatment is that a dysfunction of the TMJ joint projects down throughout the whole system,” said a dentist. “A TMJ dysfunction puts stress on the neck muscles, which pass the stress on to the back vertebrae and so on.”

The disorder can be linked to a number of things. Skateboard falls, an automobile accident, yawning very vigorously and gum chewing are all causes of TMJ dysfunction. Cupping the telephone between your shoulder and chin, or other hard objects, or even cradling your chin while watching TV can lead to a misaligned TMJ joint. “One common cause is bruxism—a technical term for grinding one’s teeth,” said an expert. Warning Signs and Symptoms of Diabetes

Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009

158960-main_FullDiabetes is a silent killer. It will advance on you without any symptoms or notice. Overweight, inactive lifestyles can lead to it. There are also certain ethnic groups who have a tendency to become diabetes in greater numbers than others. Symptoms can go unnoticed for a long time and it is hard to connect one with the other.

The most common symptoms for both Diabetes Type1 and Type 2 are a feeling of weakness and/or fatigue, constant thirst caused by body dehydration, constant urination, abdominal pain, nausea and/or vomiting, blurry vision, irritation, quick mood changes, constant infections, slow wound healing and menstrual changes.

The reason why it is hard to detect Diabetes is that all these symptoms will not show up at once. They will come and go, appear and disappear, so it is difficult to relate one with the other. The other fact is that they are usually unrelated to each other so a person may believe he or she is getting sick again, and not necessarily believe it is the same disease showing another symptom.

Constant monitoring and alertness about the person’s ailments and pains is necessary to detect diabetes. Repetition of any of these symptoms or a combination of them should make the person consider testing himself for diabetes. There are other symptoms which become visible and are easier to relate to diabetes; these are constant weight loss, a rapid heartbeat, low blood pressure and low body temperature.

These are easier to track, detect and relate but unfortunately threes appear once the disease has already set in and treatment is necessary. The symptoms mentioned above will start appearing at the early stages of diabetes when some preventive measures can be taken. Diabetes advances slowly and may go unnoticed for a long time, knowing your body and being alert to these signs can help you prevent it or control it at an early stage of development.
